Sustainability at VBM – Responsibility for a better future

As a medium-sized family business, we are committed not only to our customers and partners, but also to society and the environment. Our world is currently in permanent crisis mode, but for this reason we have to act and flip the switch.

Sustainability is not an option for us, but an integral part of our corporate philosophy. With innovative solutions, a clear focus on conserving resources and a strong social commitment, we are setting an example for a sustainable world.

Environment

Sustainability as part of our corporate strategy

In October 2023, VBM's management met again to define the “Strategy 2028” for VBM. Five core topics were defined during a workshop. Sustainability is therefore an important part of our future strategy.

Reusable medical devices

While the market has increasingly relied on disposable products in recent years - primarily due to strict hygiene requirements and standardized processes in hospitals - VBM has consciously invested in the development of reusable solutions. These products are characterized by their durability, high quality and ease of reprocessing, which not only reduces the amount of waste, but also significantly lowers CO₂ consumption over their entire life cycle.

Electromobility

We are investing in an electric vehicle fleet. Wherever possible and sensible, we rely on electric and hybrid vehicles to reduce our CO₂ emissions and minimize the environmental impact of our mobility needs. By using low-emission vehicles, we are not only making a contribution to the energy transition, but also promoting the use of innovative technologies.

Health

JobBikes - mobile, sustainable and healthy together

At VBM, we are not only committed to the environment, but also to the health and well-being of our employees. With our JobBikes, we offer everyone the opportunity to get to work in a sustainable and healthy way.

Help in difficult times

We are aware that personal or professional challenges can be stressful and are committed to providing our teams with the best possible support in difficult times. For this reason, we offer our employees professional advice in crisis situations, stress or personal difficulties. This service helps them to cope with stress, gain new perspectives and emerge stronger from challenging phases.

Taking breaks is important

Good working conditions are a matter of course for us. We promote these through various measures, activities and incentives. We offer our employees two paid coffee breaks per day. These breaks are intended to ensure that all employees have sufficient time to rest and regenerate. This enables them to complete their tasks with renewed strength and motivation.

Social responsibility

Training - The future is in our hands

At VBM, we make targeted investments in training because our junior staff are the foundation for a successful future. Our commitment has been rewarded: in an independent study, we were honoured with the DEUTSCHLAND TEST seal ‘Germany's best training companies 2025’.

Women at VBM - strong in all areas

Diversity plays a central role at VBM - this is also reflected in the gender distribution. The proportion of women is particularly high in the operational area, but women are also increasingly gaining a presence in management positions. Currently, 44% of team and department heads are women, and the trend is rising. At management level, the proportion of women is as high as 50%, which underlines our commitment to equal rights and equal opportunities. VBM relies on the strength and expertise of women in all areas of the company.

Inclusion and equal opportunities at VBM

Equal opportunities and the participation of people with disabilities are core values at VBM. We work closely with the Zollern Alb Werkstätten (ZAW) in Bisingen and prefer to outsource services to them. Our trainees take part in a project week at ZAW to familiarise themselves with everyday working life there. Employees from VBM and ZAW swapped jobs during the ‘shift change’ day, which strengthened mutual understanding. In this way, we promote an inclusive working environment and set an example of respect and cooperation.

Promotion of art and culture

With the Kulturlabor Foundation, VBM is actively committed to promoting art and culture. The aim of the foundation is to support cultural projects and creative talents and thus make an important contribution to cultural diversity in our society. Through exhibitions, workshops and events, we create spaces for inspiration and encounters. The Kulturlabor Foundation offers a platform that connects people and makes cultural creation tangible. For us, art and culture are indispensable elements of a vibrant society.

Guideline for sustainable procurement

Compliance – Our values and obligations

Responsibility is a core value of our company and the basis of everything we do:
We develop products that can be crucial for the success of medical treatments - and therefore often also for a person's life. Patients and medical professionals rely on us.
As a manufacturer, supplier, business partner and employer, we are required to create conditions to ensure that our products are available in perfect quality exactly when they are needed.

Our ‘VBM Code of Conduct’ - is the central guideline that gives us orientation so that we can fulfil our obligations.

To ensure that we maintain this high standard in the future, we regularly check that our Code of Conduct is up to date and complied with, and make improvements where necessary. If you have any justified doubts that we are not fulfilling our obligations, please let us know.
